blood is jolly red

I'm not sure why, but this made me LOL.

I quote:

Raymond Chandler was notorious for his intense dislike of Alfred Hitchcock, whom he often referred to as "that fat bastard" (typically within hearing distance of Hitchcock.)

And while we're at it. Not that you need a Hitchcock link, but hey, I'm a bit hyper-link-happy. While checking out said Hitchcock link, I came across — phobias.

Seems, Alfie had a case of ovophobia. He said of eggs: I’m frightened of eggs, worse than frightened, they revolt me. That white round thing without any holes … have you ever seen anything more revolting than an egg yolk breaking and spilling its yellow liquid? Blood is jolly, red. But egg yolk is yellow, revolting. I’ve never tasted it.

He also had a fear of cops. You'd think a healthy disdain for cops might be something Phil Marlowe-creator, Chandler and Hitchcock could have got on about?
